Antique Reclaimed Wormy Chestnut

Our Antique Reclaimed Wormy Chestnut flooring is a rare treasure in this day and age. American Sweet Chestnut was once considered a primary choice for construction because of its magnificent size and strength. However, blight decimated the population of American Sweet Chestnut trees in 1904. Only 3% of original growth Chestnut trees survived. Today those trees are in protected forests, and are starting to regenerate. However, these new growth Chestnut trees will not reach maturity for several more decades.

The trees that fell to blight, as well as those used in construction prior to the blight, were subject to Chestnut Worms which have scarred these precious timbers as they boroughed through the wood. Hence the name “Wormy Chestnut”. Because American Chesnut trees today are still recovering, many consider Wormy Chestnut one of the most prestigious floors available.

Our antique chestnut stock comes primarily out of 100+ year old barns along the East Coast of the United States. These products are Eco-Friendly as they contain 100% salvaged/recycled content.
